Over the past few years, our amazing planet has been communicating its needs for a more conscious and sustainable lifestyle, and we’re all indebted to take the necessary actions to provide it. Our main responsibility is to raise awareness about sustainability issues and to take the appropriate actions to ensure the preservation of our lovely island in its pristine and flourishing state, as a way of saying “thank you” for the lovely gifts it keeps giving.

As stewards of our resources, it is our core responsibility to use them mindfully. We have a duty to take action now and to welcome like-minded travellers who share our commitment to sustainability and to foster sustainable tourism practices that will benefit our island and future generations. Preserving St. Lucia’s natural and cultural landmarks is the center point of tourism on our island and we strongly believe, as much as we’ve proven throughout the years, that with the right leadership, everyone in the hospitality industry can and must adopt sustainable strategies.

Here at the Windjammer Landing Resort & Residences, we’re aiming to turn an eco-friendly mindset into a lifestyle, with a strong focus on conserving energy, reducing waste, using organic amenities, and minimizing the footprint we leave.

Imagine waking up in the morning with the purest air, gazing out at the Caribbean Sea and the beautiful surroundings. We are fortunate to behold nature’s beauty every day of our lives and protecting it while helping it thrive is a small price to pay for such blessings.

Stronger together – Giving divers the chance to get involved

As part of Windjammer Landing Resort & Residences environmental actions, we’ve designed a special Environmental Package for certified divers, in collaboration with the Perry Institute for Marine Conservation which grants the opportunity to become actively involved, with hands-on courses built around coral restoration and rejuvenation. Find out everything about our Environmental Package and book it here.

Ethical decisions for a sustainable future

In 2021, we at Windjammer Landing Resort & Residences have taken steps towards becoming a more environmentally conscious resort, joining the list of ‘Single Use Plastic Free’ resorts. Additionally, we strive to source the majority of our food and ingredients from local farmers and fisheries in St. Lucia, supporting the local economy as well.

We are committed to continuously implementing sustainable practices to minimize our impact on the environment, and we would love to share some of our recent environmental initiatives with you below:

  • Reusable glass bottles are filled with filtered tap water and placed in the fridge prior to the guest’s arrival, eliminating the use of plastic water bottles.
  • Smaller plastic water bottles have been replaced with glass bottles*
  • All areas are shrink-wrap free, including room service, guest amenities, beach service, etc.
  • Reusable steel lids for food covering.
  • No more plastic straws. We only offer paper straws upon request and we have reusable straws which are used for VIP amenities and are available at the Minimart.
  • Plastic cups have been replaced by either reusable cups or bio-degradable/ compostable cups.
  • No usage of styrofoam of any kind anywhere at the resort, including cups and take-away containers.
  • Paper bags have replaced all plastic bags. We’ve implemented a reusable bag program for returning guests, where they can leave their reusable bags at the Minimart when they leave the resort with the possibility to recollect them upon their return.
  • Installation of eco-friendly AC machines.

As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritize sustainability, we are constantly identifying areas where we can improve. Here are some additional aspects that we are actively working on enhancing:

  • Solar-powered water pumps.
  • Development of the first resort Green Team Committee, which would include members from all departments.
  • Strong emphasis on our Health & Safety Committee.
  • Continuation of installation of inverter AC units to reduce electrical consumption.
  • The complete elimination of electric heaters, replacing them with glycol systems.

We believe that sustainable living is a shared responsibility, and we welcome our guests to join us in our efforts to preserve the natural beauty of St. Lucia.
